BARKER BACK FOR BEN FUND

BARKER BACK FOR BEN FUND

Thursday 23rd February 2012, 11:15

Team Great Britain star Ben Barker has sent a ‘count me in’ message to organisers of the Ben Fund Bonanza at Birmingham’s Perry Barr Stadium on March 11.

The Brummies racer, who this week declared himself fit to start the season, is only too pleased to support the event which raises vital cash for injured riders both past and present.

And his appearance means he will maintain a proud record of appearing in all four of the Bonanzas staged since 2009. Last year he finished runner-up to SGP wild card Hans Andersen at Scunthorpe.

"As long as they keep on running the meeting, I will always be in it – and this year I’m going all-out to try and win it."

Barker said: “As long as they keep on running the meeting, I will always be in it – and this year I’m going all-out to try and win it.

“I’ve been injured before and the Ben Fund has helped me. It’s a great charity and it’s good to have such a good competitive meeting early in the year. Birmingham is a brilliant race track and hopefully the fans turn out and support it.”

Barker will be joined in the meeting by Wolverhampton newcomer Lukasz Sowka, who will use his Perry Barr outing to get some vital experience ahead of his Elite League debut season.

Wolves promoter Chris Van Straaten said: “The experience will be invaluable for Lukasz. I am pleased he has managed to secure a place in the meeting which is for a great cause.”

Barker and Sowka will take on Grand Prix quartet Nicki Pedersen, Bjarne Pedersen, Kenneth Bjerre and Hans Andersen in the Ben Fund meeting, as well as Danish internationals Niels-Kristian Iversen and Nicolai Klindt.

Former Team GB rider Lee Richardson also lines-up along with Elite League Riders champion Rory Schlein, Adam Shields, Danny King and Adam Roynon.
