Danish World Cup winner Michael Jepsen Jensen got his quest for more global gold off to a dream start by winning round one of the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship Final in Lonigo on Saturday.
The Peterborough rider tied on 12 points with Poland’s Przemyslaw Pawlicki, but defeated the Leszno man in a run-off for first place.
Both men gain 12 championship points and MJJ has no real advantage over last year’s World Under-21 bronze medallist going into the remaining six meetings.
Gorzow SGP finalist Bartosz Zmarzlik won a three-way run-off with Danish international Mikkel B Jensen and defending champion Maciej Janowski for third place after they all finished on 11.
Polish Under-21 champion Piotr Pawlicki bagged nine along with Danish duo Mikkel Michelsen and Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen.
The next round takes place at Slovenian circuit Lendava on August 4.
