NICKI: SGP TITLE THERE TO BE WON

Tuesday 24th July 2012, 06:10
Nicki Pedersen says his World Championship destiny is in his hands as he bids to close the 15-point gap between him and series leader Greg Hancock in Gorican on Saturday.
The FIM Monster Energy Speedway World Cup winner goes into the FIM Fogo Croatian SGP fourth in the standings on 72 points. Aussie duo Jason Crump and Chris Holder are six ahead on 78, while Hancock is even further down the road on 87.
But this deficit doesn’t concern the Danish international, who has six rounds left to overhaul his rivals.
Pedersen isn’t planning on sitting back and waiting for the top three to make a mistake. He is determined to take matters into his own hands and turn up the heat at the top.
"If I want to win the World Championship, I don’t need to look at anyone else. I need to look inside."

He said: “It’s 15 points – if I want to win the World Championship, I don’t need to look at anyone else. I need to look inside.
“I went away for a week before the World Cup and now I am ready for the last six Grand Prix rounds. We’ve done the SWC and we can focus on the SGP again, and hopefully I can end up on the rostrum.”
Pedersen has endured some tough meetings at the Speedway Stadium Milenium, having missed out on the 2010 and 2011 Croatian SGP semis on four points in both events.
The rider was not in the best of form throughout those two campaigns and hopes his 2012 momentum will carry him to a better result this time around.
The Danish champion added: “I haven’t been on the rostrum there so far, but I’ve got some new equipment this year and I’m quite confident in the way it works. We’ll see how it goes.
“I’ll go there open-minded. My gating is working quite well at the moment and hopefully I can do well.”
