PANTHERS LEGEND RETURNS

Friday 31st August 2012, 16:49

Peterborough have brought club legend Ryan Sullivan back to the East of England Showground to spearhead their Elite League title bid.

The Australian international helped Panthers lift the title in 1999 and 2006 and last appeared in the club’s colours in 2008.

He comes into the team in place of SGP rider Kenneth Bjerre, who suffered a broken leg in Peterborough’s home meeting with King’s Lynn on August 23.

"Ryan is having a very good season and it’s terrific that he can fit a busy Elite League schedule into his calendar at this stage."

The Torun stalwart has been in blistering form for the Ekstraliga club and played a huge role in them scraping into the play-off semis.

Sullivan joins forces with the likes of high-scoring Polish star Krzysztof Buczkowski, FIM Monster Energy Speedway World Cup winner Michael Jepsen Jensen, Scandinavian SGP wild card Tomas H Jonasson and Swedish prospect Linus Sundstrom.

Panthers are keen to book their place in the top four and team manager Staechmann can’t wait for Sullivan’s comeback against Lakeside at Alwalton this Thursday.

He told the club’s official website: “We are very excited to welcome him back to the Panthers, and I for one cannot wait to see Flyin’ Ryan do his stuff at the Showground again.

“Guests and rider replacement are too risky in the long run, especially if we pick up further injuries, so signing a No.1 was a priority.

“Ryan fits the criteria perfectly. He is immensely popular with our supporters and will fit nicely in with the rest of the team. Ryan is having a very good season and it’s terrific that he can fit a busy Elite League schedule into his calendar at this stage.

“I hope the Peterborough faithful will get behind the team and help us in the push for a play-off spot, and then, who knows?”
