Swedish Elitserien champions Piraterna put one foot in the play-off final after world champion Greg Hancock and Linus Sundstrom inspired them to a 46-44 semi-final, first leg win away to Dackarna.

Sundstrom starred on 12 points, while Hancock bagged 10 paid 11 and triumphed over Malilla duo Patryk Dudek and Darcy Ward in heat 15 to secure a huge victory. SGP star Chris Holder picked up seven paid nine points.

Dudek was Dackarna’s leading light on 14 paid 15 from six, while Ward racked up 11 paid 15. Grand Prix regular Freddie Lindgren and Danish international Michael Jepsen Jensen notched eight apiece.

But the hosts had to make do without world No.2 Andreas Jonsson, who remains sidelined following his crash in the FIM Scandinavian SGP at the G&B Arena on Saturday. Dackarna will try and overturn the deficit in Motala next Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Indianerna’s SGP stars Hans Andersen and Antonio Lindback shone as the men from Kumla left title favourites Vetlanda with a 50-40 mountain to climb in next Tuesday’s second leg.

The Dane bagged 10 paid 11, while the Swedish scorched to nine paid 10. Former world No.4 Rune Holta led from the reserve berths on 11 points from five.

Russian racer Emil Sayfutdinov was Vetlanda’s star on 12 paid 13, while Leon Madsen recorded 10 paid 11. Jaroslaw Hampel posted a promising eight paid nine on his return to action for the club, but Jason Crump struggled to five from as many outings.
