Saturday 13th October 2012, 20:58

Defending champion Maciej Janowski closed the gap on FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship leader Michael Jepsen Jensen after winning round five of the final in Pardubice on Saturday evening.

The Pole topped the rostrum on 14 points, suffering just one defeat to Ukrainian racer Aleksandr Loktaev in heat 13.

Janowski now has 61 championship points and is just three behind MJJ, who is on 64 at the top of the standings, after the Dane finished second on 13. He won a run-off for the silver medal on the day after tying on points with Loktaev.

Mikkel B Jensen’s title hopes suffered a setback as he fell further behind the top two after scoring 11 and finishing fourth.

He is now 13 points off the lead in third and will need a special performance over the final two rounds at Argentine track Bahia Blanca on November 3 and 10 to have any chance of denying his good friend Jepsen Jensen and Janowski the title.
