GTR FOR JD?

Jason Doyle tested the GTR engine during pre-season, but is set to keep his rivals guessing over whether he’ll use it in the SGP series.

Aussie racer Jason Doyle tested Marcel Gerhard’s GTR engine during pre-season, but is set to keep his rivals guessing over whether he’ll use it in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series.

The Newcastle-born racer was spotted experimenting with the motor during Chris Harris’ testimonial at Coventry on March 20, which he won.

It’s all about testing and it’s also all about trying to find something that works better than what the other riders have.

Bomber served as factory rider for the developers during the 2015 SGP series and it is believed other riders may now try the motor, with the likes of Swedish star Freddie Lindgren and Polish racer Janusz Kolodziej said to have tested them.

SGP riders are constantly developing in a bid to stay ahead of the competition and Doyle was keen to see if it boosted his performance.

The Swindon, Zielona Gora and Rospiggarna star said: “It was one of the things we needed to try.

"It’s all about testing and it’s also all about trying to find something that works better than what the other riders have.

“I really struggle on slick tracks and at Coventry the track was what we needed that day. It was really slick and we wanted to find out what the best setup would be. The GTR worked really well.

“It’s a new thing, but we will not be using the GTR in the Grand Prix or any other league racing. We’ll test it when we want to, but I’m happy with my other engines.”

Pushed on whether he might introduce it later in the year, Doyle replied: “It’s funny. Speedway is a gossip sport. Everyone wants to see what I say, but we’ll keep it under wraps and see what happens.”
