ZMARZLIK: TOP EIGHT A MUST

Bartosz Zmarzlik admits staying in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix top eight is a must as he bids to build on his recent resurgence in Malilla.

Polish ace Bartosz Zmarzlik admits staying in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix top eight is a must as he bids to build on his recent resurgence in the Teng Tools Swedish SGP tonight.

The Gorzow and Vetlanda man arrives in Malilla placed seventh in the World Championship on 55 points – 23 behind leader Jason Doyle, but just three short of Freddie Lindgren in fourth.

Since Cardiff, things have been better. There is a lot of racing before me, but the top eight is a must. After that, I just want the best place I can get.

Bartosz Zmarzlik

Zmarzlik has endured a patchy start to his SGP campaign, but powered to fourth place at the Adrian Flux British SGP in Cardiff on July 22 – his best performance of 2017.

He’s determined to take that form into the second half of the season, and admits securing his spot for 2018 by finishing in the World Championship’s top eight is the minimum requirement.

He said: “Since Cardiff, things have been better. There is a lot of racing before me, but the top eight is a must. After that, I just want the best place I can get. The season is long and there are six rounds to go.

“At the start of the season there was a little bit of a problem with the engines. My points weren’t the same as last year, but now it is better.”

Zmarzlik scored 12 points for Vetlanda when they triumphed at Malilla in the Swedish Elitserien on July 11. He’s hoping for another big performance.

He said: “Practice wasn’t so bad on Friday, but we’ll see how it goes tonight. This year I had a good meeting here in the league. I hope it will have some good racing again. Every meeting is very different and we will see.”
