HOLDER JOINS HANCOCK HAJ SGP TEAM

Former world champion Chris Holder has joined SGP great Greg Hancock’s new FIM Speedway Grand Prix team.

Former world champion Chris Holder has joined SGP great Greg Hancock’s new FIM Speedway Grand Prix team.

Hancock has teamed up with chief mechanic Rafal Haj to launch Hancock Haj Grand Prix, with the new project echoing Grin’s legendary partnership with Billy Hamill, which saw them race as Team Exide in the 1990s.

Holder and the American icon have long been good friends, with the Aussie growing up idolising Hancock and Hamill. So the four-time world champion was determined to make the Sydneysider part of the new stable, which will feature one more senior and two juniors.

It’s going to be just like a motocross team or a rallycross team where everything is done to the maximum, and I can’t wait to be involved with it.

Hancock said: “Right from the outset I wanted Chris with me in the team, and it was just a case of reaching out to him and seeing if it’s something he wanted to be a part of.

“Everyone knows the talent he has. He is an amazing rider, but he’s also a great guy and a good friend, so it made sense to have him in. Chris has so much more to show people and we want to really help him to get the best out of himself, and we think we’ve created an environment that will benefit him a lot.”

After a tough 2017 season, Holder hopes joining forces with Hancock Haj will help him regain his best form.

He said: “When Greg approached me with the idea I thought it was awesome and I knew straight away that I wanted to be involved. It’s not often you get the chance to be a part of something this big and I’m really excited about it.

“Greg and Raf have big plans and they are doing it properly. It’s going to be just like a motocross team or a rallycross team where everything is done to the maximum, and I can’t wait to be involved with it.

“I didn’t have the easiest time of it last season, but this feels like a fresh start and a really cool opportunity to get myself going again.

“Greg helps me with advice and stuff anyway, but to be part of a proper team setup with him is going to be cool. We get on really well so it’ll be easy. I can’t wait now!”
