Swedish star Linus Sundstrom has finally completed his return to British speedway with Poole, and Pirates owner Matt Ford insisted he was his first winter transfer target.

The former Peterborough man joins the Wimborne Road side on a 7.22 average, teaming up with SGP star Chris Holder, Brady Kurtz, Josh Grajczonek, Kacper Woryna and Mateusz Szczepaniak. Pirates have just one more rider to name.

The Gorzow and Masarna man has been linked with Poole all winter, but was unable to seal the deal while the BSPA negotiated with the Polish Ekstraliga to allow its riders the right to race in more than two other leagues.

The first rider I contacted after the AGM in November was Linus, so it has been a game of patience to get this deal over the line.

With that resolved, the 2015 Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup winner returns to the UK for the first time since 2013, when he raced for Coventry. And Ford insists the deal was worth the wait.

He said: “The first rider I contacted after the AGM in November was Linus, so it has been a game of patience to get this deal over the line.

"I'm relieved and excited by this signing and I feel we have a very competitive team to lead us into our 70th anniversary year.

“I think it has captured the imaginations of our supporters too, with a very positive uptake of season tickets.

"Linus is excited to join the club in its platinum season and I know he will fit in superbly with the other riders in this team. I think our supporters are in for a real treat watching him on the Poole shale."
