RESTED AND READY

Russian racer Emil Sayfutdinov says his two week break since Torun has worked wonders as he prepares for the FIM Dansk Metal Nordic SGP in Vojens tonight.

The 21-year-old injured both shoulders and his back in a heavy spill while racing for Balakovo at home to Salavat on August 24.

Sayfutdinov competed in the Torun SGP on August 27 with the aid of a pain-killing injection, scoring seven points and only missing the semi-final cut on countback.

He has been on the sidelines since, but the Bydgoszcz hero is ready for action again.

"I’ve had some time to relax and I’ve been at home with my family. Now I’m ready for tonight."

He said: “I’ve been to Poznan for some rehabilitation and now I’m feeling good. The last Grand Prix in Torun was bad, but now everything is fixed. We’ll see what happens. I’ve had two weeks off. I’ve had some time to relax and I’ve been at home with my family. Now I’m ready for tonight.”

Sayfutdinov has been absent from Elite League play-off-chasing Coventry’s side and returns for their meeting against Eastbourne at Arlington on Monday.

But the rider admits this could be his last meeting for the Bees as his Russian league commitments threaten to clash with Coventry’s play-off dates if they reach the top four.

He said: “It’s a problem now. I’m just going to Coventry for the meeting on Monday I think.

“They have many meetings in Russia now and this is a problem. I’m not riding in the play-offs.”

Asked whether he made the right decision in taking on the No.1 race jacket at Brandon, the Russian replied: “Of course, it has been a good school for me. It’s the first season when I’ve had more meetings, but it has been too many meetings for me.”

Sayfutdinov does not rule out a return to the UK next year. He added: “I will see. I must think about everything for next season. I must finish off this season first and we’ll see. I’ll make a decision.”

For now, the rider’s focus is on the Nordic SGP at Vojens and he is delighted to be racing on his Danish Super League home circuit.

He said: “I really like this track because I have a contract here with this club. I haven’t ridden here this year because I haven’t had time, but I do like this track.

“It’s good for me here. There is a Grand Prix here and I get on well with Ole Olsen. I like him. He’s a nice person and I must stay here.”
