EKSTRALIGA | LUBLIN AGREE LAGUTA DEAL

Russian racer Grigorii Laguta is set to return to the shale with PGE Ekstraliga newcomers Lublin in May.

Russian racer Grigorii Laguta is set to return to the shale with PGE Ekstraliga newcomers Lublin in May.

The elder brother of SGP regular Artem has been serving a suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, which expires on March 11.

He is then eligible to join up with his new club from May 15, when the Ekstraliga’s transfer window opens, with his debut coming in Lublin’s home match with Torun on May 24.

The news puts pay to rumours the club might mount a bid for American icon Greg Hancock, whose contract with First Division side Rzeszow was terminated following the club’s closure.

Laguta was being heavily linked with a return to second-tier side Rybnik – the club he was representing when he was suspended in 2017.

But Lublin confirmed news of his arrival on their official Facebook page as he prepares to join forces with the likes of former world No.2 Andreas Jonsson, SGP first reserve Robert Lambert and Danish racer Mikkel Michelsen.

Their Facebook statement read: “We are extremely pleased to inform you that we have reached an agreement with Grigorii. In the coming season, he will race in our colours during the PGE Ekstraliga.

“Officially Grigorii will join the team on the opening day of the second transfer window on May 15. He will first race in Lublin during the sixth round of matches when Speed Car Motor Lublin faces Klub Sportowy Torun.”
