HAMPEL: I EXPECT MORE

HAMPEL: I EXPECT MORE

Thursday 13th October 2011, 13:35

World No.3 Jaroslaw Hampel may have clinched his second straight season on the SGP series rostrum, but admitted “it’s not what I expect.”

Hampel won his first Polish title this term and produced another solid year in the World Championship, which saw him win the FIM Scandinavian SGP in Malilla.

But the six points he scored from four rides at the FIM Enea Gorzow SGP of Poland on Saturday were not enough to give him the series’ silver medal for the second year on the trot. He also finished 42 points behind world champion Greg Hancock.

Hampel has shown he has the consistency to mount a title push over the past two seasons, but he is determined to put in the hours and find a way to take his challenge to the next level in 2012.

"There are a lot of things to do and I have a plan to do something. Hopefully next year will be better."

He said: “I’m sure I’ll make a better job of it next year. I want to improve. This time I finished third, but I’ll try to race better and be the best.

“I knew it would be really tough because I was really close with the points to Andreas. I was in the hunt to the end, but he was two points better and got the silver. I need to think about things in the winter time. I need to do something more to race better.

“It was still not a bad season, but it’s not what I expect. There are a lot of things to do and I have a plan to do something.

"Hopefully next year will be better. I don’t want to say too much about what I’m going to do. There are so many things involved and it’s complicated.”

Hampel could have claimed second place in the World Championship had the Gorzow SGP run its course. It was curtailed by the FIM jury after four rounds of races, meaning Hampel lost out on a heat race, as well as a possible semi-final and final, which could have netted him a further 12 points.

The Pole had no complaints about the action being stopped, even if it didn’t help his cause.

He said: “What could we do? We couldn’t do anything more in the weather. The rain came in and the track was really dangerous.

“It was the right decision to cancel it. My situation was really difficult because I was so close to Andreas on points. But I understood the situation. It was really bad on the track.”
