Danish racer Nicki Pedersen is set for some practice laps in the south of France as he limbers up for the New Zealand SGP on April 5.

The triple world champion travels across the English Channel from his UK base tomorrow before heading to Marmande – a circuit just outside south western city Bordeaux.

The area may be famous for its wines, but it is also home to France’s most famous race track.

With the Western Springs circuit a whopping 413 metres long – the biggest on the SGP calendar – Marmande’s 504-metre oval should be the ideal preparation for going flat-out in the City of Sails.

With the weather still cold and wet in northern Europe, Pedersen hopes Marmande will be kinder to him as he tests equipment and warms up for the World Championship’s Auckland opener.

He said: “I’m going to do some testing and I want to be as prepared as possible. The weather seems to be fine there and I’ve never been on this track, but it should be alright.

“I’ve heard it’s a very big track, but as long as the weather is fine and I can do some laps, I don’t care how big or small it is. With New Zealand coming, hopefully it will help me.”

Pedersen is set to be joined by fellow Danish international and Dackarna colleague Mikkel Bech in Marmande as he prepares for a busy year. The Lakeside signing starts his first full season in the British Elite League and will also bid to captain Esbjerg to a third straight Danish Super League title, as well as fight for a starting place at Zielona Gora.
