Russian international Artem Laguta is targeting race wins in Prague as he bids to pick up his FIM Speedway Grand Prix pace after reaching the Slovenian SGP semi-final.

Laguta notched nine points in Krsko after racing to four second places and a third in his heats, before finishing last in his semi to exit the meeting.

It was a marked improvement on the four points he scored at the Boll Warsaw SGP and the Grudziadz man was encouraged by his strides forward.

In Krsko, we made progress – and hopefully that can continue and earn some heat wins in Prague.

But he’s keen to take the chequered flag at the ANLAS Czech SGP in Prague this Saturday. He said: “It was slightly better than Warsaw, but we did miss heat wins.

“We found it difficult to get the right setup on the bike, but we know we are making strides in the right direction.

“In Krsko, we made progress – and hopefully that can continue and earn some heat wins in Prague.”

Laguta admits he needed to be quicker from the tapes. He said: “Other riders were faster from the start, and it was difficult to overtake – but some riders managed to do that.

“It was difficult for us. But we’ll sit down and watch the heats again to try and work out what we can do better. The World Championship is so equal, and it can easily be another story in Prague.”

Team Laguta will continue their search for speed as they work on their machines ahead of round three at the Marketa Stadium.

Laguta said: “Everyone can race the tracks; we just want to get some more speed that can allow us to win races.

“We won’t blame engines. It’s just the small things that can make a difference. There are other riders in this World Championship that are learning a lot as well.

“All engines in this series are at a very high level. We might not have been fast enough in Krsko, but we won’t give up.”
