FINAL FLOURISH FOR LAMBERT?

British champion Robert Lambert hopes to take the next step on his FIM Speedway Grand Prix journey and reach the ANLAS Czech SGP final.

British champion Robert Lambert hopes to take the next step on his FIM Speedway Grand Prix journey and reach the ANLAS Czech SGP final in Prague.

The Norfolk-born racer has flown the Union flag impressively this season, reaching the semi-finals in Warsaw and Krsko, scoring eight and seven points respectively.

The SGP first reserve, who is covering for the absent Greg Hancock, is delighted to have proved he can mix it with the sport’s biggest names.

I have got into semis, so all you have to do is get a first or second. I’m sure I can do that. If we have a good night, I can get into the final.

And while two semis is a very promising start to his World Championship season, an ambitious Lambert feels a final is within his reach.

He said: “I have got into semis, so all you have to do is get a first or second. I’m sure I can do that. If we have a good night, I can get into the final.

“I feel good. To be at this level is great, but to be mixing it up is even better. I am pleased with what’s going on at the minute.

"Hopefully I can continue it and do some good in the meeting.”

Lambert finished third in Friday’s qualifying session, clocking 15.293 seconds on his best flying lap.

This earned him third pick of starting positions for the ANLAS Czech SGP and he opted for No.9 – giving him two starts from gate one. He’s keen to make the most of that.

“I’ve got two reds at the end,” he said. “I think nine is the number I went for in Warsaw and it half worked there. It seems to me that the inside gates can work here as well, especially towards the end.

“I’m happy with that and happy I got some fast times. I know my bikes are on the pace and we got a good pick. Now we’ll just crack on tonight and see what happens.”
