VOJENS SGP CALL FOR MICHELSEN

Danish shooting star Mikkel Michelsen named as wild card for Danish FIM Speedway Grand Prix sponsored by Ecco.

In-form Danish racer Mikkel Michelsen gets his chance to take on the FIM Speedway Grand Prix elite in Vojens after being named as wild card for the Danish SGP sponsored by Ecco on September 7.

Michelsen dons the No.16 race jacket at Denmark’s national speedway stadium – having topped the podium there in a Speedway European Championship round last Saturday.

The Lublin rider has been in rock-solid form for the PGE Ekstraliga newcomers this year, as well as starring for Piraterna in the Swedish Elitserien and Slangerup in the Danish Speedway League.

He is this year’s SGP third reserve and will also appear at the Scandinavian SGP in Malilla this Saturday, replacing the injured Antonio Lindback.

Michelsen’s last SGP appearance came at the 2018 Danish SGP in Horsens, where he scored a point as a track reserve. But his last full SGP outing was as 2015 Danish SGP wild card, bagging six from five rides.

Joining Michelsen in Vojens are track reserves Michael Jepsen Jensen and Anders Thomsen, who wear No.17 and No.18 respectively.

Jepsen Jensen is a former SGP winner at Vojens, having famously overhauled triple world champion Nicki Pedersen to win the 2014 Nordic SGP – the last FIM Speedway Grand Prix event staged at the stadium.

Thomsen is currently sidelined by injury and if he is unable to race in Vojens, his place will be taken by Danish under-21 star Frederik Jakobsen.

The referee for the Danish SGP is Craig Ackroyd from Great Britain.
