VACULIK SEEKING GORICAN GUARANTEE

Slovak star Martin Vaculik is determined ensure he won’t need another FIM Speedway Grand Prix wild card with a top-three finish in Gorican.

Slovak star Martin Vaculik is determined ensure he won’t need another FIM Speedway Grand Prix wild card with a top-three finish at Saturday’s GP Challenge in Gorican.

The Zarnovica-born racer was handed a permanent wild card for this season’s series after finishing 13th in 2018, having missed the opening two SGP rounds due to a badly broken ankle.

You never know what can happen in speedway. That’s why I also want to go through the qualification.

He has more than taken his chance and is currently fourth in the World Championship on 68 points – just seven behind leader Leon Madsen.

While his chances of finishing inside the SGP top eight for the first time and qualifying for SGP 2020 automatically are increasing by the round, Vaculik wants to make doubly sure of his place in the big time by shining in the GP Challenge.

He said: “It’s very, very nice that Speedway Grand Prix gave me a wild card, so I want to be fair to them and also go the qualification way. You never know what can happen in speedway. That’s why I also want to go through the qualification.”

While the need to qualify for next year would be gone if Vaculik makes the cut in Croatia, he says he isn’t feeling any pressure in a season which has seen him finish second in three out of six SGPs so far.

He said: “If I am in the top three in the GP Challenge, the pressure will be a little bit less.

“But when I am racing, I don’t feel any pressure anyway. I am working very well with my mind right now.”
