Aussie icon Jason Doyle paid tribute to Swedish side Rospiggarna as he heads for pastures new in the Elitserien next year.

The Swindon star, who leads the Robins into the SGB Premiership Grand Final, first leg at Ipswich tonight, has been a regular in Hallstavik since 2016, when he led the club to championship glory.

I would personally like to thank Rospiggarna Speedway for the last four years. Next season I will start a new challenge in Sweden.

The club narrowly avoided finishing bottom this season and Doyle took to Instagram to reveal he wouldn’t be returning next year, with Elitserien contracts set to expire today – freeing up riders to change clubs.

Despite his departure, Doyle had warm words for the club and especially boss Mikael Teurnberg and Rospiggarna legend Andreas Jonsson, who announced his retirement at the end of the season.

The Newcastle-born racer said: “I would personally like to thank Rospiggarna Speedway for the last four years. Next season I will start a new challenge in Sweden.

“I have made so many great memories with this club! The highlight was winning my first Swedish gold medal in 2016.

“Mikael Teurnberg and Andreas Jonsson – to have these Swedish legends to be guided by was something I will never forget. I learnt so much from them both and I wish the club much more success in the future.

“Thank you to all the supporters – you have all been amazing! There wasn’t a bad word spoken to us riders; you were always just so happy to see us race. Thank you and see you all again in 2020 on the other side of the pits.”

Doyle is also on the move in Poland following Torun’s relegation to the Polish First Division, with Czestochowa being heavily linked with his signature. It’s said JD would replace Matej Zagar, who is rumoured to be heading to Lublin.
