Wroclaw trio Maciej Janowski, Max Fricke and Maksym Drabik have all extended their contracts at the Olympic Stadium into 2020.

Wroclaw trio Maciej Janowski, Max Fricke and Maksym Drabik have all extended their contracts at the Olympic Stadium into 2020.

Janowski is set for his 12th season in his hometown team’s colours, where he’s third on their all-time point-scoring charts with 1,376 points and 151 bonuses from 830 rides. That’s some feat given that he’s still only 28 years old.

He’s already looking forward to the 2020 season after starting his preparations by undergoing surgery to have metalwork removed – the legacy of the shoulder damage he suffered in a crash at Grudziadz on May 3.

Maciej, despite his young age, is already a true legend of Wroclaw Speedway. I am glad that we can still count on him as the captain, rider and symbol of WTS Sparta.

Andrzej Rusko

Janowski is joined in returning to the club by Fricke, who left Rybnik to join Wroclaw for 2018. This will be his third season in their colours.

The SGP duo team up with Drabik, who joins the senior ranks for the first time after learning his trade with the club as an under-21. He became only the third rider in the sport’s history to become a double World Under-21 champion this year and is tipped to star in the Wroclaw top five.

Wroclaw president Andrzej Rusko is delighted with the club’s start to the PGE Ekstraliga transfer window as he retained three key riders.

He said: “Maciej, despite his young age, is already a true legend of Wroclaw Speedway. I am glad that we can still count on him as the captain, rider and symbol of WTS Sparta.

“The contract with Max Fricke is the result of our long-term transfer policy. We boldly focus on young and promising speedway riders, and at the same time we try to make them associate with the club and the city for many years.

“It is already the third season for Max in Wroclaw. In each of the previous seasons, he took a step forward and I am convinced that it will be similar in next year's competition.

“Maksym Drabik is one of the greatest talents in the history of Polish sport. I am glad that he remains part of the Wroclaw team.”

Elsewhere in the PGE Ekstraliga, Kenneth Bjerre has penned a new two-year contract with Grudziadz.
