SpeedwayGP fans have voted for their SGP Line-Up of the Decade. This week we profile Polish star Maciej Janowski.

Magic started the last decade as one of the world’s brightest junior talents, with American great Greg Hancock taking the son of Wroclaw under his wing.

Grin and his team were even in Janowski’s pit corner as he denied Darcy Ward a third straight FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship win, lifting the title at Gniezno in 2011.

But Janowski rapidly went from apprentice to challenger, winning the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Final with his country in Prague in 2013, before finishing fourth in the 2014 GP Challenge in Lonigo to book his place in SGP 2015.

It wasn’t long before Magic joined the SGP winner’s circle, topping the podium at the 2015 Latvian SGP in Daugavpils on his way to a very solid seventh place in the World Championship.

Despite winning the Danish SGP at Horsens in 2016, Janowski’s form tailed off towards the end of the season and he slipped to 10th place.

But he has established himself as one of the world’s top stars since, finishing fourth in both 2017 and 2018.

Back-to-back SGP wins in Horsens and Cardiff in 2017 helped him climb to the SGP World Championship summit at one stage during the season, and he added a victory in Hallstavik in 2018.

He fell just short of winning that elusive first World Championship medal, and it was always going to be an uphill struggle last year when Janowski suffered a shoulder injury just two weeks before the opening round in Warsaw.

After missing the PGE Narodowy showdown and scoring four points at round two in Krsko, Magic raced his way back into form, culminating in German SGP victory in Teterow.

Securing sixth spot in difficult circumstances was some achievement for Janowski. And there’s no doubt one of Polish speedway’s most charismatic stars wants to go even better in SGP 2020.
