Swedish star Freddie Lindgren admits the influence of Czestochowa boss Marek Cieslak is helping him on and off the track as the Lions go for PGE Ekstraliga glory in 2020.
Fast Freddie penned a fresh, three-year contract this winter to commit his immediate future to the Lions.
Sometimes me and Marek go cycling just to get away from things and talk about everyday stuff on a cycling trip for a couple of hours. He’s a good mentor.
He forms a stellar top trio with FIM Speedway Grand Prix rivals Leon Madsen and Jason Doyle, with the team managed by seven-time FIM Speedway World Cup winner Cieslak.
The Polish national team boss has cemented his reputation as one of the all-time great coaches and he doesn’t just work his magic in the pits. Lindgren revealed Cieslak is always ready to act as a sounding board to his stars – whatever they need to get off their chest.
“He is a good coach,” Lindgren said. “I have a lot of respect for Marek. He says good things when he needs to and if he doesn’t need to say anything, he doesn’t.
“He's good to work with outside of the race meetings too. Sometimes me and Marek go cycling just to get away from things and talk about everyday stuff on a cycling trip for a couple of hours. He’s a good mentor.”
Lindgren can’t wait to be part of a stellar Czestochowa side once again. “Our team looks really good on paper,” Lindgren said. “We have to perform on the track, but me and Leon have been at Czestochowa together before this year. We work well together.
“I have never worked with Doyley before, but he is a fantastic rider and he was world champion just a few years ago. He is always scoring a lot of points, so I look forward to racing with him for sure.
“I feel really happy at Czestochowa. The club treats the riders very well and they are very professional. We have great fans as well. I was really happy to sign a long-term contract. I really look forward to getting a championship with Czestochowa. That is our goal.”
