Russian racer Emil Sayfutdinov insists there is no pressure on his Leszno side as they edge closer to greatness in Poland.

The Salavat-born star has played a pivotal role in the Bulls’ charge to a hat-trick of PGE Ekstraliga championships – making them the first club to win three in a row since the Ekstraliga was launched in 2000.

Leszno raced to an astonishing five titles from 1950 to 1954 and one more this season would put them just short of matching that mark.

But Sayfutdinov insists there’s no pressure on his side to chase that figure as they focus on what they can do this season, once league action is able to resume.

He said: “We just have a plan for this year. We have a good connection with the president, the club and the sponsors. We went to Spain, sat down and made a plan of what we can do. We won’t have pressure; we will just try to enjoy our speedway.”

Sayfutdinov joins forces with the likes of former world No.2 Jaroslaw Hampel, Polish champion Janusz Kolodziej, Piotr Pawlicki, Bartosz Smektala, Brady Kurtz, Jaimon Lidsey, Dominik Kubera and Szymon Szlauderbach there in a squad that has rarely changed in recent years.

A lack of changes has helped Leszno find continuity rarely achieved in the sport and Sayfutdinov admits he’s part of a special side.

Asked the secret of their success, he said: “I think it’s just a good atmosphere. Our team has a good connection during meetings – all the time we try to speak about setups and the track. Most teams do it like that, but we have some special riders. We have good juniors and seniors.

“Sometimes if the seniors have a problem and don’t score some points, the juniors score well and that’s good.

“It is our job to build good bikes and be fast, but if we need some practice, we can go to Leszno no problem – whether it’s in the morning, afternoon or evening. We never have a problem there and that connection motivates us.”

PGE Ekstraliga clubs must track two Polish under-21s in their reserve spots. Despite Smektala moving into the senior ranks this year, Kubera will still give them a real sting in the tail, and Sayfutdinov is backing Szlauderbach to step up and make his mark.

He said: “Kubera is still a junior. He has great potential and could become World Under-21 champion.

“We also have a new junior in Szymon, who spent a few months in Australia this winter. He did some practice there with Leigh Adams. He also had a few meetings there. For sure he will be a little bit stronger than last year.”
