EKSTRALIGA | VACULIK INSPIRES FALUBAZ DERBY WIN

Slovak star Martin Vaculik inflicted more pain on basement side Gorzow as he led their arch-rivals Zielona Gora to a 50- 40 derby victory.

Slovak star Martin Vaculik inflicted more pain on basement side Gorzow as he led their arch-rivals Zielona Gora to a 50-40 derby victory in the PGE Ekstraliga on Sunday.

Vaculik joined Falubaz from Gorzow ahead of the 2019 season, crossing one of the most hostile divides in the sport.

And he fired Zielona Gora up to second place in the standings with a terrific 12-point haul – featuring four race wins. Local hero Piotr Protasiewicz also starred on 10 paid 12, with SGP ace Patryk Dudek adding nine paid 10 and Antonio Lindback scoring four paid five.

Gorzow remain bottom of the table without a point in 2020. But it wasn’t all bad news as Jack Holder vindicated the club’s decision to start him ahead of former world No.2 Krzysztof Kasprzak, collecting 13 paid 14 from six rides.

World champion Bartosz Zmarzlik tallied 12, leading the Aussie home in heat 15 for a 5-1 that gives Gorzow a fighting chance of landing the bonus point in the return fixture.

Danish racer Niels-Kristian Iversen enjoyed a much-improved evening on his return from injury, scoring seven paid eight.

Elsewhere, Russian racer Grigorii Laguta came back to haunt former club Czestochowa as he inspired visitors Lublin to a sensational 47-43 win.

Laguta repeatedly bounced off the Czestochowa fence as he took the fight to SGP icons Leon Madsen, Freddie Lindgren and Jason Doyle on his way to a fantastic 13-point haul.

Wins from Madsen and Lindgren denied him a maximum, but Laguta saw off the Dane when it mattered most in heat 15 to seal the points and Lublin’s first victory at Czestochowa since 1992.

Laguta was backed up by nine paid 11 points from Slovenian star Matej Zagar, nine from all-action SGP first reserve Mikkel Michelsen and eight from former world No.2 Jaroslaw Hampel.

Madsen topped the Lions scorechart on 14, with Lindgren adding 11 and Pawel Przedpelski notching nine paid 10. Former world champion Jason Doyle ended a tough afternoon on three.
