Great Britain racer Dan Bewley has suffered a broken shoulder blade in a BMX crash in Wroclaw – immediately after recovering the stolen bike.
The Belle Vue favourite put out an appeal on social media after the bike was snatched on July 6.
Bewley was reunited with the BMX and took it out for a test ride. But disaster struck when he fell off, suffering an injury which looks set to sideline him for the coming weeks.
Wroclaw confirmed the news on their Twitter feed this evening, tweeting: “Two messages for Friday afternoon. Good and bad ... The good news is that Dan Bewley got back the stolen bike!
“The bad news is that he tested it today and ... he had a fall, the consequence of which is a broken shoulder blade.”
Bewley had lost his place in the Wroclaw side to new signing Chris Holder, but was still able to occupy the No.8 position for under-23 riders, offering his side a useful standby option.
GB bosses will be hopeful he makes a full recovery in time for the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Final in Manchester on October 24 and 25.
