GOLDEN HELMET GLORY FOR ZMARZLIK

World champ Bartosz Zmarzlik added the Polish Golden Helmet to his trophy cabinet after winning the final in Bydgoszcz with a 15-point max.

World champion Bartosz Zmarzlik added the Polish Golden Helmet to his trophy cabinet after winning the final in Bydgoszcz with a 15-point maximum on Monday night.

The Gorzow icon was unstoppable over five rides in a crunch meeting that decided Poland’s entrants for the 2021 FIM Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway European Championship qualifiers, as well as the last eight participants for the Polish Final in Leszno on August 24.

With Zmarzlik already in the SGP series and safely through to the national championship decider, the race for second was huge. In-form Pawel Przedpelski beat Krzysztof Kasprzak in a run-off for that all-important spot after they tied on 12 points over five rides.

Kasprzak is set to represent Poland in the 2020 GP Challenge after winning last year’s Golden Helmet, but his third place in Bydgoszcz could see him join Przedpelski in the SGP 2021 qualifiers.

Jakub Jamrog, Krystian Pieszczek and Piotr Protasiewicz missed out on this year’s SGP qualifiers after they were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. They will also line up in the SGP 2021 international rounds.

National champion Janusz Kolodziej finished fourth with 11 points in the Golden Helmet showdown, with Jaroslaw Hampel and Patryk Dudek tallying 10 apiece. Kacper Woryna notched nine, Dominik Kubera scored eight and Bartosz Smektala beat Szymon Wozniak in a run-off for eighth after they tied on six.

Kolodziej, Zmarzlik, Maciej Janowski, Piotr Pawlicki, Przemyslaw Pawlicki, Dudek, Maksym Drabik and Kubera had already qualified for the Polish Final, as last year’s national championship top eight.

They are joined by Przedpelski, Kasprzak, Hampel and Woryna, who finished in tonight’s top eight and hadn't already qualified.

Norbert Kosciuch and Krystian Pieszczek both advance to the Polish Final after finishing ninth and 10th respectively in last year’s national championship meeting, with tonight’s ninth and 10th-placed pair Smektala and Wozniak completing the field.

GOLDEN HELMET SCORES: 1 Bartosz Zmarzlik 15, 2 Pawel Przedpelski 12+3, 3 Krzysztof Kasprzak 12+2, 4 Janusz Kolodziej 11, 5 Jaroslaw Hampel 10, 6 Patryk Dudek 10, 7 Kacper Woryna 9, 8 Dominik Kubera 7, 9 Bartosz Smektala 6+3, 10 Szymon Wozniak 6+2, 11 Jakub Jamrog 5, 12 Mateusz Cierniak 4, 13 Kamil Brzozowski 4, 14 Krzysztof Buczkowski 4, 15 Norbert Krakowiak 3, 16 Jakub Miskowiak 2.
