BEWLEY'S SCAN FRUSTRATION

GB racer Dan Bewley moved to clear up any confusion over his broken shoulder blade after revealing he was refused a CT scan in the UK.

Great Britain racer Dan Bewley moved to clear up any confusion over his broken shoulder blade after revealing he was refused a CT scan in the UK.

The Cumbrian has jetted back to his British base after suffering the injury when he crashed on his BMX bike on July 17.

He has since advertised his Wroclaw apartment as available on Twitter, with three months left to run on his lease, after losing his place in the Wroclaw team to 2012 world champion Chris Holder – recruited as a guest from Torun.

I needed a CT scan because where I have broken it, it doesn’t show up on X-rays, but they told me in England they will not do a CT, and because on the X-ray it doesn’t show up as broken, I can’t get a sick note.

Bewley visited West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven in a bid to undergo the CT scan needed to receive a sick note. But the hospital was only willing to carry out an X-ray, which did not show the injury.

As a result, the World Under-21 finalist posted a tongue-in-cheek tweet, revealing: “Doctors said that I was fine! So I'm either Superman or I was deceived.”

He later removed that post and clarified that he wasn’t criticising the medical attention he received in Wroclaw – far from it. Bewley was left frustrated that West Cumberland Hospital was unwilling to carry out a CT scan.

He tweeted: “To clear up any confusion in my last tweet, what I meant was, I was given poor treatment by the NHS as they would not give me a CT, which I needed to get a sick note.

"In Poland I had excellent treatment and they did a CT scan right away, showing exactly what was wrong.”

Bewley added: “I needed a CT scan because where I have broken it, it doesn’t show up on X-rays, but they told me in England they will not do a CT, and because on the X-ray it doesn’t show up as broken, I can’t get a sick note. Thanks to the Polish doctors for their help showing what’s wrong.”

As an under-23 rider, Bewley would still be eligible to line up at No.8 for Wroclaw when he is fit to race, offering a very handy option if the Olympic Stadium outfit reaches the PGE Ekstraliga play-offs.

He will also be hopeful of taking his place in the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship Final at Pardubice on October 2.
