Russian racer Emil Sayfutdinov roared clear in a last-heat decider to preserve Leszno’s 100-percent record as they beat Zielona Gora 47-43 at Alfred Smoczyk Stadium on Tuesday.
In a tense battle between the PGE Ekstraliga’s top two, the Bulls were trailing by eight points after four races, but fought back to claim an eight-point advantage going into the final two heats.
A 5-1 from Zielona Gora’s SGP stars Martin Vaculik and Patryk Dudek over Bartosz Smektala and Jaimon Lidsey put them within four points of the hosts and in contention to snatch a draw.
But Sayfutdinov delivered the goods when it mattered in heat 15, seeing off Vaculik for the win his side needed, while Falubaz legend Piotr Protasiewicz worked overtime to snatch third place from Leszno’s Janusz Kolodziej on what was a record-breaking 512th PGE Ekstraliga appearance for Pepe.
Sayfutdinov topped the Leszno scorechart on 11 paid 13, with Kolodziej collecting nine paid 11. Smektala accrued eight and Lidsey scored seven paid nine.
Vaculik starred on 15 from six for Falubaz, while Dudek grabbed seven paid nine and Protasiewicz marked the night he surpassed the great Tomasz Gollob’s Ekstraliga appearance record with seven paid eight.
