Danish star Leon Madsen hopes to produce more magic in Torun as he goes for Speedway European Championship glory tonight.

The world No.2 heads to the Marian Rose Motoarena trailing series leader Robert Lambert by two points in the title race.

Whoever tops the podium will become the first guaranteed starter in the 2021 FIM Speedway Grand Prix series.

I am only two points behind in the overall classification and I am going to do everything I can to win back my European title, which I won back in 2018. Hopefully I can win another trophy for my collection.

But qualification is the last thing on Madsen’s mind as he targets an SGP and SEC title double this year.

Having triumphed at last year’s Torun SGP with a 21-point maximum and won the opening round of this season’s SEC series at the Motoarena, the Polish-based racer is keen to ensure history repeats itself as he targets his second European title.

He said: “I am only two points behind in the overall classification and I am going to do everything I can to win back my European title, which I won back in 2018. Hopefully I can win another trophy for my collection.

“It’s a track in Torun where I have had some very good experiences in the past. Last year I won the last round of the GP with maximum points. I also won the European Championship round there. It’s going to be very exciting and interesting.”

Lambert won the last round on a testing track in Gniezno and is determined to capitalise on a potentially career-changing opportunity in Torun.

He said: “I didn’t expect to be in that position after the meeting (in Gniezno) which I am now. It will be a tough fight in the last round to get all the points that I need.

"I'm going to try to get that top position and it definitely will be my main goal in Torun.”
