SMOLINSKI SET FOR SWEDISH COMEBACK

German racer Martin Smolinski is set to make his racing comeback in Masarna’s Swedish Elitserien opener at Lejonen on Tuesday.

German racer Martin Smolinski is set to make his racing comeback in Masarna’s Swedish Elitserien opener at Lejonen on Tuesday.

The Bavarian suffered a broken and dislocated hip as well as nerve damage when he crashed at a training session in Leipzig on August 22.

He is undergoing intense physiotherapy at Eden Reha in Donaustauf – a world-class treatment centre used by the German national football team.

Smolinski has already returned to the shale to test his fitness, but this will be his first meeting of 2020 as he bids to get ready for the SGP 2020 series-opening weekend in Wroclaw on August 28 and 29.

The former New Zealand SGP winner is joined in the Masarna side by SGP rival Antonio Lindback, with European champion Robert Lambert leading the charge for Lejonen alongside Rohan Tungate and Nicolai Klindt.

Elsewhere, Indianerna host Rospiggarna in their opening match, with Aussie champion Max Fricke taking to the shale for the Indians alongside SGP series reserve Pontus Aspgren. The likes of Kai Huckenbeck, Timo Lahti, Rasmus Jensen and Tomas H Jonasson race for Rospiggarna.

No SGP riders line up in Piraterna’s home clash with Vastervik, but the Pirates track Peter Kildemand and Great Britain racer Adam Ellis, who flies the GB flag at the GP Challenge in Gorican on August 22. Denmark’s Mikkel Bech Jensen captains Vastervik.

The day’s other match sees Vetlanda host Dackarna with the likes of Peter Ljung and Brady Kurtz racing for the hosts, with skipper Hans Andersen, Jacob Thorssell, Oliver Berntzon and Frederik Jakobsen in Dackarna colours.
