DOYLE EYES AUSSIE GOLD IN SON

Aussie icon Jason Doyle would love to add a Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations gold medal to his 2017 world title triumph.

SGP icon Jason Doyle would love to add a Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations gold medal to his 2017 world title triumph as in-form Australia head for Lublin this weekend.

The Roos take on hosts Poland, champions Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain and the Czech Republic over Friday and Saturday night, bidding to build on the bronze medal they won in Togliatti last summer.

Doyle ended his season in great form in the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series, finishing sixth in the World Championship. Max Fricke capped his year off with victory in FST Grupa Brokerska Torun SGP round seven, while Australia’s junior star Jaimon Lidsey is the new World Under-21 champion.

With all three joining forces for their third straight Final, Doyle can’t wait to lead them into action as they chase Australia’s first world team title since they won the 2002 FIM Speedway World Cup at Peterborough.

He said: “It’s always a great honour to race for your country and we’ll all give it our best. Even more, it’s a wonderful feeling for me to be captain of my country; it means so much to me.

“Max and Jaimon are in good form too so we’re going into the meetings in pretty good shape. It would be amazing if we could win gold for Australia and we’ll be pushing each other on.

“I’m looking forward to two nights of great racing and hopefully by Saturday night we’ll be coming away with a medal. I’ve got an individual world title under my belt and I’d love a team title for my country.”
