Great Britain international Dan Bewley signed off his junior career in style by lifting his first British Under-21 Championship at Berwick on Wednesday.
The Cumbrian roared to a 15-point maximum from five rides, and with the semi-finals and finals cancelled due to the racing curfew at Shielfield Park, the result was taken after 20 heats.
Berwick favourite Leon Flint impressed in second place on 14 points, with Swindon and Somerset star Anders Rowe taking third spot on 13. GB star Drew Kemp took fourth place on 12 points.
The top four met in a huge heat 16 and the result proved absolutely decisive with Bewley taking the win, Flint second, Rowe third and Kemp excluded after crashing in the first staging of the race.
The last major action of the British season takes place at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium on Thursday night as the Aces host the Peter Craven Memorial meeting, featuring triple world champion Jason Crump and SGP star Jason Doyle. Racing takes place behind closed doors.
