Swedish star Freddie Lindgren is recovering from hand surgery after going under the knife in Barcelona last week.

The double FIM Speedway Grand Prix bronze medallist revealed he had the operation on an injury that has been causing him problems for a while.

But he kicks off his rehabilitation programme today as he works to regain full fitness ahead of the 2021 season.

Today I will start my rehabilitation programme to be back to full health as soon as possible so I can prepare for next season.

Posting on Facebook, he wrote: “A week ago I travelled to Barcelona to have surgery on my hand, which has troubled me for some time. I found out that it was a lot worse than I first anticipated. They needed to do a full reconstruction within my hand.

“I am very glad I was in good care with hand specialist surgeon Dr Barrera and his team, who completed a successful operation last Thursday.

“We took my cast off on Monday and everything is looking good at the moment. I also visited Mr Eduard Font, who made me a personal hand split to help me in my recovery.

“Today I will start my rehabilitation programme to be back to full health as soon as possible so I can prepare for next season.”

Lindgren also paid tribute to wife Carolina, who remained in Czestochowa where she gave birth to the couple’s first child Millie-Li on October 2.

He said: “I want to give a special mention to my wife Carolina who supports me with everything she can at the moment. She had to stay in Poland without me and take care of our young daughter. I miss you.”
