2021 DANISH FINAL SET FOR VOJENS

FIM Speedway Grand Prix venue Vojens has been confirmed as host for the 2021 Danish Championship Final on June 9.

FIM Speedway Grand Prix venue Vojens has been confirmed as host for the 2021 Danish Championship Final on June 9.

Vojens Speedway Center staged this year’s Final on September 30, with Anders Thomsen storming to victory – just days before being named as a permanent wild card for SGP 2021.

The meeting also saw teenage sensation Marcus Birkemose, then just 16, claim third place in the final after topping the heat scorechart.

It was one of few elite meetings to take place on Danish shale in a season blighted by the coronavirus pandemic.

But with the Danish SGP sponsored by Ecco returning to Vojens on September 11 and Metal Speedway League action also returning for 2021, the venue is set for a much busier season next year.

Tickets for the Danish Final are expected to go on sale next month and Vojens boss Olsen is delighted to see Denmark’s historic national speedway stadium handed the event once again, despite the challenges they faced this year, which saw some fans buying virtual tickets from home to support the event financially.

He said: “There are just some practical conditions that we must have in place with Billetlugen.dk, and then we expect to offer a favourable early bird ticket in December.

“It is a strong signal that NERI is awarding us another DM final, because it is no secret that with only 300 spectators – due to corona restrictions – we had a significant financial loss with the 2020 edition.

“This was despite the fact that many fans backed us up by buying support tickets at home from the couch, where they watched the final on TV2 Sport.”
