Czestochowa president Michal Swiacik hailed Swedish star Freddie Lindgren after the world No.3 offered to take a pay cut on his Lions deal for 2021.
Fast Freddie has become a firm favourite at the club and spent the year living in the city due to the coronavirus pandemic. His daughter Millie-Li was also born there in October.
Riders have been forced to take pay cuts on their pre-Covid deals due to the loss of ticket and sponsorship revenue caused by the pandemic.
But Swiacik paid tribute to Lindgren for going to extra mile to support the club in these tough times.
He told Przeglad Sportowy: “Fredrik is one of the best speedway riders in the world, but most importantly a very honourable man, not indifferent to the problems of everyday life. Right now, during a pandemic, we have discovered that at Czestochowa. We are positively encouraged by his behaviour.
“During the last visit of the Lindgren family to the club, the rider proposed an additional salary reduction in the event of a reduction in the number of fans at the stadium.
“As you know, the regulations of PGE Ekstraliga for the 2021 season provide for a reduction in the rate depending on the number of spectators admitted to the stadiums.
“The speedway rider, however, proposed an even greater reduction in the rate for the points scored. This is an unusual situation. We are really proud of his involvement in the club's life.”
