VACULIK: FRIENDS REUNITED AT GORZOW

Slovak star Martin Vaculik can’t wait to team up with “best friend” Bartosz Zmarzlik as the pair reunite at Gorzow this season.

Slovak star Martin Vaculik can’t wait to team up with “best friend” Bartosz Zmarzlik as the pair reunite at Gorzow this season.

The Zarnovica-born racer returns to the Edward Jancarz Stadium after two years with Gorzow’s arch-rivals Zielona Gora, but it seems his time away did nothing to break his friendship with the world champion.

Vaculik is looking forward to joining forces with his fellow two-time Gorzow SGP winner once again as Gorzow bids to improve on the PGE Ekstraliga silver medals the club won in 2020.

Bartek is a very, very nice person. He’s clever and he’s my good friend. When you can work with your best friend, it’s always perfect.

“I’m very happy about being back at Gorzow after two years away,” Vaculik said. “I am very, very happy I can be part of this strong team with some great team mates.

“My best friend Bartek is also there, so that’s very important for me. We raced together at Gorzow in 2017 and 2018, but I think our friendship started even earlier.

“We were racing together in Sweden with Vetlanda before. I have known him for many years. We stood together on the podium when I won my first Grand Prix at Gorzow in 2012.

“We have always had a very good relationship, but over the last couple of years, I can say our relationship has become better and better.

“I can call him my best friend from the speedway world, and not only in speedway. When we speak to each other, we don’t only speak about speedway. We speak about normal life.

“I am very pleased about that relationship because Bartek is a very, very nice person. He’s clever and he’s my good friend. When you can work with your best friend, it’s always perfect.”

Vaculik and Zmarzlik will also link up with their SGP rival Anders Thomsen, who starred in yellow and blue last season.

The Dane recently revealed that it was Vaculik who recommended him to Gorzow shortly before his move to Falubaz. The former European champion is delighted they will finally get to race together at the club.

He said: “I am also friends with Anders. When he joined Gorzow in late 2018, the club was looking for a good, young rider who had potential.

“In my eyes, Anders is a good, talented rider. He showed that this year. I told him Gorzow could be the perfect place for him and somehow I recommended him to Gorzow.

“Finally we now get to ride together. Bartek and Anders are my good mates and also Szymon Wozniak – I have a very good relationship with the other guys in the team. I am very happy about that.”
