TEURNBERG: SOFT VALUES SEALED DOYLE DEAL

Dackarna boss Mikael Teurnberg believes taking care of Jason Doyle at Rospiggarna helped him lure the Aussie to Malilla for 2021.

Dackarna boss Mikael Teurnberg believes taking care of Jason Doyle at Rospiggarna helped him lure the Aussie to Malilla for 2021.

The world No.6 was due to line up for Vastervik in Sweden this year, only to withdraw from their squad in favour of competing for British club Swindon after PGE Ekstraliga clubs limited their riders to racing in just one other league.

But when the SGB Premiership champions unexpectedly pulled out of the competition, Doyle returned to the Bauhaus Elitserien with Dackarna.

I work a lot with soft values. I believe in that a lot. I appreciated that myself as a rider. It's not just about coming here and riding. It's about taking care of the guys; picking them up, dropping them off and maybe finding them somewhere to live. It’s about just being there for support.

The move saw him reunited with Teurnberg, who brought him to Rospiggarna, with the pair winning a league title together in 2016.

Teurnberg believes their time together in Hallstavik helped persuade one of the world’s top riders to join a power-packed Dackarna side.

He told ElitSpeedway.com: “I recruited Jason from Malilla to Rospiggarna 2016. I did not know him then but I saw the potential. I knew Jason's then manager and mechanic very well. He was new to the GP then.

“He had a fantastic season in 2016 and was close to becoming world champion when he crashed. We won gold with Rospiggarna and we got close to each other. He lived with me a lot in Hallstavik.

“I work a lot with soft values. I believe in that a lot. I appreciated that myself as a rider. It's not just about coming here and riding. It's about taking care of the guys; picking them up, dropping them off and maybe finding them somewhere to live. It’s about just being there for support. Here in Sweden, we cannot offer the largest salaries, but the soft values mean a lot.

“We got to know each other well and I was his team leader for three years. We had three fantastic years there in Hallstavik with gold, bronze and a fourth place and he became world champion as well.”

Doyle joins forces with the likes of SGP rival Maciej Janowski, Swedish champion Jacob Thorssell, Rasmus Jensen, Frederik Jakobsen and Luke Becker for the Malilla men.
