WROCLAW: WE WON'T RUSH WOFFY BACK

Wroclaw bosses are hopeful triple world champion Tai Woffinden will make a rapid racing return, but insist “we will not risk his health.”

Wroclaw bosses are hopeful triple world champion Tai Woffinden will make a rapid racing return, but insist “we will not risk his health.”

The Great Britain star is currently sidelined with a broken shoulder suffered in the club’s PGE Ekstraliga match at Grudziadz on April 23.

Woffy missed the their trip to Lublin two days later and it is unclear when he will make his racing return, with Wroclaw's next match away at Czestochowa on Sunday.

We want it to happen as soon as possible, but we will not risk his health. He will return to the squad only when there is an unambiguous medical diagnosis about his health and when he decides that he will be able to withstand the loads associated with racing.

Adrian Skubis

While the club is keen to see one of its star men back in the saddle, club spokesman Adrian Skubis insists Wroclaw will wait until Woffinden is declared medically fit and ready to race.

He told Przeglad Sportowy: “We do not want to make any hasty declarations. In the near future we have three matches with Czestochowa, Gorzow and Leszno. It's hard to say in which of them we will see Tai on the track. One thing is for sure. We want it to happen as soon as possible, but we will not risk his health. He will return to the squad only when there is an unambiguous medical diagnosis about his health and when he decides that he will be able to withstand the loads associated with racing.”

Skubis says Woffinden has undergone intense treatment since the crash. He added: “After the match with Grudziadz, Woffinden immediately returned to Wroclaw and underwent detailed tests that night.

“Immediately after the weekend, he began gentle rehabilitation in a limited range of movement. He continues it every day; more rehabilitation elements are added and everything is going in the right direction.

“With these types of injuries, each day brings something new and can be a breakthrough.

“When exactly will he be back? It's really hard to judge. Certainly, his performance in a match must be preceded by some training on the track.”

Wroclaw covered Woffinden’s absence using rider replacement at Lublin, but Skubis admits making up the SGP icon’s point contribution is no easy task.

He added: “We can bring in a substitute for Tai Woffinden, but as Artem Laguta told me, it is a very difficult task. A world-champion speedway rider is simply irreplaceable.

“Many factors must work together and four riders must be equal to the task in order to compensate for him, at least to a limited extent.

“It is worth emphasising, however, that in the face of an injury to one of our leaders, the entire team has shown great determination. Today we are building the character of this team.”
