MADSEN MAKES DANISH RETURN

Leon Madsen is set for more regular racing in Denmark after signing for Nordjysk Elite Speedway ahead of tonight's Danish Final in Vojens.

FIM Speedway Grand Prix star Leon Madsen is set for more regular racing in Denmark after signing for Nordjysk Elite Speedway ahead of tonight’s Danish Championship Final in Vojens.

Madsen has opted against competing in his homeland in recent years, instead opting to focus on the World Championship and his PGE Ekstraliga matches with Czestochowa.

The 2019 SGP silver medallist will now line up for the Brovst club, although it’s unclear how many matches he will race at this stage.

Madsen makes his debut at the end of the month. He confirmed: “I will race for my old club Brovst on June 30.

“The good people in Brovst got me a sponsorship agreement with Sparekassen Vendsyssel and then an agreement fell into place.

“How many matches it will be is currently a bit unclear, as the GP season in 2021 seems to be compressed due to the pandemic. But we are working to get more races into the calendar and if not in 2021, in 2022.”

Madsen is among the favourites for tonight’s Danish Final, but faces huge competition from a star-studded field.

His SGP rival Anders Thomsen defends the crown he won in Vojens last September, while seven-time winners Nicki Pedersen and Niels-Kristian Iversen will both be chasing No.8.

Former SGP stars Mikkel Michelsen, Kenneth Bjerre and Michael Jepsen Jensen will also be in the hunt, along with last year’s runner-up Nicolai Klindt.

DANISH FINAL LINE-UP: 1 Mikkel Michelsen, 2 Mads Hansen, 3 Rasmus Jensen, 4 Nicki Pedersen, 5 Andreas Lyager, 6 Jonas Jeppesen, 7 Patrick Hansen, 8 Niels-Kristian Iversen, 9 Nicolai Klindt, 10 Marcus Birkemose, 11 Frederik Jakobsen, 12 Rene Bach, 13 Michael Jepsen Jensen, 14 Kenneth Bjerre, 15 Leon Madsen, 16 Anders Thomsen.
