World champion Bartosz Zmarzlik faces off with 2020 title rival Tai Woffinden when he opens his bid for a third straight FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship in Anlas Czech SGP heat four on Friday.
Last year’s top two battled all the way to the penultimate race in Torun for the sport’s biggest prize, and they resume rivalries immediately, with 2020 European champion Robert Lambert and Leon Madsen joining them at the start line.
Zmarzlik also faces a tough finish to his heats on Friday night as he comes up against fellow Polish star Maciej Janowski – the only man above him in Poland’s PGE Ekstraliga averages. Zmarzlik’s Gorzow team mate Martin Vaculik and wild card Jan Kvech will also be at the tapes.
World No.3 Freddie Lindgren opens his SGP season in race two against Swedish newcomer Oliver Berntzon. Kvech and Australian champion Max Fricke complete the line-up.
The first race of the SGP 2021 season sees Vaculik come up against Laguta, Aussie icon Jason Doyle and Slovenian star Matej Zagar.
Janowski opens his campaign in race three against fellow countryman Krzysztof Kasprzak, Emil Sayfutdinov and Anders Thomsen.
Saturday’s round two features a fascinating Polish showdown in race three as Zmarzlik, Janowski and Kasprzak all feature, with Berntzon completing the line-up.
The Brits both meet Zmarzlik in the same race for the second night running, as Woffinden and Lambert join the world champion in heat 13, which also features Laguta.
The opening heat of round two sees Lindgren come up against Vaculik, Lambert and Thomsen, while Madsen, Laguta, Fricke and Kvech clash in race two. Woffinden opens night two against Sayfutdinov, Doyle and Zagar in heat four.
