WOFFY: LESSONS LEARNED FROM FRIDAY

Triple world champion Tai Woffinden says he and his team “learnt a lot” from last night’s Anlas Czech Republic SGP round one.

Triple world champion Tai Woffinden says he and his team “learnt a lot” from last night’s Anlas Czech Republic SGP round one as they bid to go even better in tonight’s second Prague showdown.

The Great Britain racer claimed third place at Marketa Stadium, following home winner Maciej Janowski and runner-up Emil Sayfutdinov in the final.

It was a great result for a man who had to fight hard to take his place in the semis. Despite scoring five points from his opening two rides, one point from his next two outings meant the pressure was on for heat 20.

We learnt a lot. We have a good base and we know what we need to do tonight. I would say my semi-final setup is the one I will ride all day today.

But Woffinden took the win ahead of Anders Thomsen, Oliver Berntzon and Matej Zagar to make the top-eight cut, before using all his skill to fend off Artem Laguta fantastically for second place in semi-final two. He was then guaranteed a podium place in the final when Freddie Lindgren hit the tapes.

The Wroclaw star was delighted to grind out a strong result in the opening round of SGP 2021, and he hopes to make the most of the setup lessons Team Woffy learned in tonight’s second Prague round.

He said: “We salvaged a third, which was pretty good. I started the night okay with a second and a win. The next two races were really bad and we were just trying to find the setup. We were chasing it all night.

“I needed to win my last race to make the semi, which I did. I needed to finish first or second to get into the final, which I did. If Freddie hadn’t touched the tapes, I wouldn’t have been on the podium.

“But we learnt a lot. We have a good base and we know what we need to do tonight. I would say my semi-final setup is the one I will ride all day today.

“We are just missing a little bit. We just need to find that tiny little bit and then we’ll be there.”
