Polish shooting star Dominik Kubera makes his FIM Speedway Grand Prix debut after being named as wild card for the Orlen Lublin SGP of Poland double-header on August 6 and 7.
The Lublin young gun dons the famous No.16 race jacket for the biggest weekend of racing in the city’s history as the sport’s individual World Championship is staged there for the first time.
Kubera made a blockbuster move to the club after winning four straight PGE Ekstraliga titles with Polish champions Leszno, his hometown club, and has inspired his new team into the play-off positions.
The 22-year-old stormed to second place in the 2020 FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship Final in Pardubice last October and also represented Poland as their under-21 rider at last year’s Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Final in Lublin, which saw them win silver.
Kubera is currently listed as third reserve for the SGP 2021 series, meaning he could be called up in the event of riders being forced out due to injury. But his place in Lublin and the biggest weekend of his career is guaranteed.
He is joined in the Orlen Lublin SGP by track reserves Wiktor Lampart and Mateusz Swidnicki, who line up at No.17 and No.18 respectively. Lampart races alongside Kubera for Lublin, while Swidnicki rides for Czestochowa.
Both Lampart and Swidnicki will take their places in this season’s FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship series in September and October.
