World champion Bartosz Zmarzlik raced to a near-perfect 14 points for Gorzow as they saw off arch-rivals Zielona Gora 48-42 at the Edward Jancarz Stadium on Friday night.
Zmarzlik warmed up for next weekend’s Betard Wroclaw SGP double-header in fine style as he reeled off four straight wins in this PGE Ekstraliga derby, with only Falubaz hero Patryk Dudek beating him in race 15.
The Gorzow talisman was well supported by his 2020 Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations team mate Szymon Wozniak, who raced to 12 paid 13, while Martin Vaculik added 11 paid 12.
It was a tough night for Danish champion Anders Thomsen, who competed just days after suffering a string of falls at the Anlas Czech SGP last weekend. He collected two paid three from four rides.
But victory almost secures play-off qualification for Gorzow, who move top of the PGE Ekstraliga on 23 points.
Dudek was Gorzow’s star man on 13, with Matej Zagar tallying 10 and Aussie champion Max Fricke notching nine paid 10.
In the day’s other meeting, Aussie icon Jason Doyle raced to a 14 paid 15-point maximum for fourth-placed Leszno as they stepped up their play-off push with a thumping 56-34 win at home to basement club Grudziadz.
The 2017 world champion was brilliantly backed up by 11 paid 13 from Janusz Kolodziej and 11 paid 12 from Emil Sayfutdinov.
Triple world champion Nicki Pedersen and Norbert Krakowiak were Grudziadz’s top scorers on seven points apiece.
Sunday’s meetings see second-placed Wroclaw host play-off-chasing Czestochowa, while Torun welcome Lublin.
