Aussie internationals Jason Doyle and Max Fricke face their biggest tests in the closing stages of tonight’s Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Semi-Final 2 in Daugavpils.
The Roos are tipped to triumph in tonight’s Lokomotiv Stadium showdown as they face hosts Latvia, champions MFR, Germany, France, Ukraine and Italy, with three places at the Monster Energy SON Final in Manchester on the line.
A talented young Latvian side could reach its first world final this evening, and arguably their biggest test comes against the Aussies in heat 12, with the men from Down Under lining up in gates one and three.
The Roos then come up against German duo Kai Huckenbeck and Valentin Grobauer in heat 16, before ending their heats against French stars David Bellego and Dimitri Berge in race 19.
Germany will be bidding to reach their third final in four seasons, while the French team is seeking the first world final in its history. The two teams meet in what could be a crucial race seven in the battle for qualification.
Latvia launch their campaign in heat three against the Germans, before meeting MFR pair Sergei Logachev and Vladimir Borodulin in race six as the two geographic neighbours battle for speedway supremacy.
With Australia next up in their third outing, the hosts face their biggest tests in the early stages of the Semi-Final.
The opening race sees Italian stars Nicolas Covatti and Paco Castagna take to the shale against Australia, before the Russians meet Ukrainian stars Aleksandr Loktaev and Vitalii Lysak in heat two.
Latvia and Germany then face off, with France getting their night started against Italy in heat four.
