Great Britain racer Craig Cook has pledged to race on, despite suffering a broken bone in his wrist at the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations Finals in Togliatti on Saturday.

The Cumbrian visited hospital on his return to the UK for checks today, where the break to his capitate – the largest of his wrist bones – was confirmed.

Cook sustained the injury when he collided with Robert Lambert in heat four of Final 1, battling through the pain to six points on Saturday, before managing four on day 2 on Sunday. Lambert sustained whiplash injuries to his neck and was ruled out of Sunday’s meeting.

Despite the fracture, the stand-in GB skipper is pledging to line up for SGB Championship side Glasgow at home to Eastbourne on Tuesday.

He said: “Just back from hospital and unfortunately I have fractured the capitate in my left wrist. I still have ok strength and movement so I will be strapped up and ready to go for Glasgow tomorrow evening. Thanks again for the support over the weekend.”
